Why You Should Enhance the Security of SD-WAN with a Secure Web Gateway

June 16, 2020

Security is shifting and converging in the cloud. While upgrading legacy MPLS networks to newer applications like SD-WAN inherently offer enhanced security, there are additional solutions to consider to further enforce security without adding cost, complexity or latency. One of these additional solutions is a secure web gateway.

A secure web gateway is an on-premise or cloud-delivered network security service that protects an organization from online security threats and infections by enforcing company policy and filtering Internet-bound traffic. Sitting between users and the Internet, secure web gateways provide advanced network protection by inspecting web requests against company policy to ensure malicious applications and websites are blocked and inaccessible. A secure web gateway includes essential security technologies such as URL filtering, application control, data loss prevention, antivirus, and https inspection to provide organizations with strong web security.

A third-party secure web gateway service enables granular and central security policy creation to be utilized by all connected networks. The policies are applied consistently whether the user is at the data center or a branch site. When branch internet traffic is routed via SD-WAN to a secure gateway server, security is enhanced by:

– Blocking access to high-risk and malicious websites and applications
– Enforcing compliance policies and regulations
– Preventing malware infections and detecting infected devices with a multi-layered security architecture
– Providing protection for remote workers by enforcing company security policies, while enabling them to stay connected wherever they may be

A critical aspect of SD-WAN security is whether the SD-WAN platform integrates and interoperates with leading network security products, including secure web gateways. Parallel partner CBTS has aligned with Check Point Software to offer supplemental solutions to enrich their secure SD-WAN offering.

For a limited time, CBTS has a number of secure SD-WAN offers.

Find out more about how you can save on enhanced security options in your network deployment.
