You may already be evaluating new possibilities in phone systems if the existing contract for your legacy premise-based system is about to renew or expire. Even if you’re just a year or two into your contract, it is beneficial to start exploring cloud options right now.
1. Outdated Technology – Advances in technology move at a fast pace – and so do the demands of your business. The age and condition of your equipment could mean that part of your premise-based phone system is outdated. And changes in customer and business needs could mean that even a newer system is hindering business efficiency and employee productivity.
2. Continued Investment After Initial Capital Outlay – You may be trying to address the outdated technology issue by adding functionality – resulting in numerous disparate solutions that are tough to maintain. Eventually, your business needs to decide whether to continue to invest in the current phone system rather than replace it, change to the cloud, or contemplate a hybrid solution.
3. Business Plans – Depending on growth and other factors, it may make sense to begin thinking about updating your legacy system sooner rather than later. If the size or organization of your business is changing, including remote employees and added locations, the financial and operational benefits of an updated system could be countless.
4. Making the Move on Your Terms – Your business structure may be ideal for a stepped migration of certain parts of your business to the cloud, rather than a full replacement of your legacy on-premise system. Businesses with multiple locations, distinct business units, or numerous communications vendors have an opportunity to make a gradual move. It’s best to start with areas of significant cost savings, including departments with high call volume or frequent staffing changes.
It’s never a bad time to explore your options, regardless of your current contract status. Having a clear understanding of the possibilities for updating your phone system will only benefit your business when it is time to make the move.
